Reformulating recipes
Reformulation is a great way for the food industry to help improve consumers' diets. The process of reformulating is different for every business, but always involves changing an existing product or recipe to improve its nutritional content.
The Food and Drink Federation Scotland's (FDF) Reformulation for Health programme is for small- to medium-sized food companies. You don't have to be an FDF member to take part.
FDF Scotland can help businesses to:
- review current nutritional specification, and compare it with market trends to make sure reformulating improves your product’s longevity
- map any upcoming industry guidelines and legislations which may affect your product
- use a holistic approach to reformulation, and will present all the nutritional improvements for your product you can achieve by reformulating
- encompass what is important to your brand and make sure that reformulation works for you
This means that FDF can help you make your recipes healthier while taking into consideration your brand, customers and business priorities.

Peas Please
Peas Please is a UK-wide initiative. It brings together partners across the country with the common goal of increasing vegetable consumption, with a focus on low-income groups and children. It works towards making vegetables more readily available, accessible and appealing. A pledge is a commitment to support people to eat more vegetables.
Pledging can help your organisation to:
- show that you're committed to promoting good health
- show that you're committed to responsible corporate sponsorship
- use it to support sustainability initiatives
- reach environmental targets
- use it to support accreditations such as ISO14001
- have a chance to win a Peas Please Award and be covered in national and trade press
In 2022, Food Standards Scotland became a pledger of the Peas Please initiative as a systems influencer.
Interested in pledging? To discuss becoming a pledger please contact peasplease@nourishscotland.org.uk and mention Food Standards Scotland. |
